Code in BDSM

Question: How is Code d' Ode received in the BDSM community generally? Is it acknowledged as a legitimate alternative?

Code d' Ode is still relatively new and so most of the BDSM community - which is a very diverse and shapeless community - have probably not encountered it as yet. It has been around for about a decade but only in recent years has it been promoted on the WWW. There has been a mixed reaction. Some people in the "scene" see it as a welcome expansion of the available "flavors" - others are hostile.

Code d' Odalisque is non-violent and non-sado-masochistic. Therefore, people who are into S & M are likely to dislike it. In some on-line forums you will find such people making very disparaging remarks, calling Code d' Ode "vanilla" and so on. There are, unfortunately, some very narrow-minded purists in the BDSM scene and they look upon anything new unfavorably.

On the other hand, many Code d' Ode practitioners have a background in BDSM and understand that Code d' Ode is just an extension of current formats and styles of play with an emphasis on such themes as bondage, captivity, obedience . Clearly, Code d' Ode belongs within the spectrum of BDSM. But it is a different system and a different tradition. The emphasis is on pleasure (hedonism) and the slave play is non-violent. No whips, etc.

We should stress that if people enjoy pain and enjoy S & M, that is fine. Code d' Ode is for people - especially women - who are looking for non SM slave play. We look forwartd to the time when such choices are fully respected inside and beyond the BDSM community. Code d' Ode provides another option for consenting adults.
