The slave's attar

The sense of smell – olfaction – is one of the deepest and most intimate of the senses and is profoundly connected with sexuality. Accordingly, the oriental love of sensual perfume was incorporated into Code d’ Odalisque and is a feature of consensual odalisque slavery. The slave wears a perfume. It is designed to be associated with her active service as a cockslave. It is designed to be the distinctive perfume of the slave and associated with the enjoyment of her. Perfumes trigger deep psychological responses if they are used to good effect. The use of a slave’s perfume is a psychological device that can be both powerful and effective if used consistently as part of creative slave play.

The slave’s perfume is called her “attar” – the Middle Eastern term for an essential oil. The Code refers to it in article 5.18:

5. 18 - The Slave’s Attar

It is usual for an odalisque to wear an attar (perfume) as an olfactory emblem of her bond during her occlusion. The attar shall usually be formed out of a blend of natural essential oils such as lavender, rose, jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood, musk, according to the design of the Slavetrader or person officiating at her disclacing. She shall be anointed with the prepared perfume at her discalcing and the same blend shall be used throughout her captivity

The procedure, therefore, is for the Slavetrader – or whichever man helps the woman into slavery – to assign her a perfume. A slave is anointed with perfume when she is discalced (initiated). The perfume is therefore prepared by the man who presides over her discalcing. Usually he will prepare a blend of wood and floral oils in a mixture that he thinks will suit the new odalisque. After that, she retains that perfume. It is her distinctive scent. She wears it whenever she is serving her Master. In this way every odalisque smells different. A unique blend of oils is the preferred way to do it to ensure that every odalisque has a different perfume. If commercial perfumes were to be used then it would soon happen that two odalisques were using the same scent.

High quality essential oils can be expensive, but they are potent and a single drop goes a long way. The best method of blending an attar for an odalisque is to spend time smelling and testing different combinations. It is an intuitive thing. Rose oil will suit some women but not others. Lavender will suit some but not others. The Slavetrader should blend together three or four oils into a unique blend that he feels represents something of the personality or ‘energy’ of the odalisque. He makes a batch and also writes down the recipe so that she can use that distinct blend thereafter. Whenever she is preparing herself to serve her Keeper she will apply the same blend of oils to her body according to article 5.19 of the Code:

5. 19 - Anointing with Attar

Attar is worn by placing a small dab of the oil just below the arm pit under each arm, at the back of the neck and just above the pubic hair line. Where a slave is anointed during the discalcing ritual the attar shall be applied in these places by another person, usually the Slavetrader (Advocate) in an act of ritual anointing.

Only a small dab is needed. It should be subtle, not overwhelming. It is placed at the various hairlines of the female body – under both arms, at the pubic hairline and at the back of the neck. Note that these are places where the perfume will become activated by sexual exertion. These are places where the body already produces its own erotic odors. The attar should mix with the natural sexual, subtle odours of the woman.

If you already own a slave, provide her with her own distinctive attar and use it to enhance active play. Slaves, by definition, are not permitted distinct and idiosyncratic personalities. They are quiet, shy, demure, obedient, timid. A slave makes herself into a passive material that her Master can shape and enjoy. Slavery, by definition, depersonalizes. But in Code d’ Ode, one of the privileges of an odalisque – as opposed to a low slave – is that she has an “attar” that expresses her personality. It is her scent. Hers alone. It is an expression of her as odalisque.

Needless to say, every blend made should be pleasant and erotic. A Slavetrader should not bestow some malodorous concoction upon some poor slave. It should enhance the slave as well as express something of her sexual energy. A Slavetrader should take the task of finding a suitable blend for each slave seriously and devote some time to finding the right scent. It is always best if a slave's attar is not changed once she starts using it. Perfumes work through association. She, and her Master, will soon come to associate the perfume with her duties as a cockslave.
