Code d' Odalisque - systems

Code d' Odalisque represents a rich body of ideas and practices for reviving odalisque slave play in a contemporary consensual form. The Code itself, and accompanying material, was a coming-together of several strands of creative ideas with their roots in European historical fantasies about odalisque culture. Most of the credit for this must go to Steven and Vicki Rose, who did the initial drafting, along with Gordon Hayes, and others. What is now Code d' Odalisque is an ensemble of previously separate documents that was revised and further revised into a complete and comprehensive system of odalisque slavery. There are numerous developed sub-systems within the Code that itself constitutes a total system. We can distinguish:

*A philosophy

The Code sets out a philosophy for odalisque slavery, based in 'enlightened hedonism'. Note that this is quite a different philosophical position than that which underpins most contemporary BDSM. It is concerned with pleasure, not with power.

*A system of phallic devotion

The Code incorporates ideas, themes and practices of phallic devotion, i.e. cockworship. Odalisque slavery is expressly defined and understood as a mode of female phallic devotion.

*A system of slave positions, postures and commands

The Code incorporates a full system of positions, postures and commands with an emphasis upon both grace and elegance and positions for sexual access. In part, based on historical models, further developed from practice.

*A system of contract

The Code incorporates a system of contract first used by the earliest players of Code d' Ode and further worked up into a complete set of quasi-legal codifications and protocols.

*A system of assessing and grading women slaves

The Code includes a system for assessing and grading female slaves. It uses a distinct notion of 'virginity' as the measure of the value of slaves. (This was originally a separate 'game'.)

*A system of etiquette

The Code includes a full system of etiquette and manners for both slaves and Keepers. From the outset, slavery was conceived as an institution for refinement, not for degradation.

*A system of speech and discourse

The Code also includes a system of speech and discourse which was developed separately to the system of etiquette. The feature of the system of speech and discourse is the use of French words, titles and phrases, the francofication of play.

*An approach to training

The Code incorporates a distinct approach to slavetraining suited to odalisques. This is based on distinctions between freewoman, odalisque, slut and whore, and uses the processes of 'discalcing' and 'unslutting' as the basis of training.

Code d' Odalisque is offered free to all interested adults. Our objective is to build a viable international community of consenting adults who enjoy the odalisque lifestyle and accompanying Code Culture. We are building an odalisque slave culture for the new century.
