Introduction

Among the more formal kinks in today's adult scene is "consensual slavery". This is a type of dominant/submissive play in which one person voluntarily plays the role of obedient slave to another. This can take many forms. There is the so-called "old guard" style of slave play which tends towards sado-masochism, for example. This style features whips, leather-gear, dungeons and is based in motifs of the French Revolution using the Marquis de Sade as its inspiration. Another style is extracted from a series of fantasy novels by John Norman. It is called "Gorean" and is a maledom/femsub genre of slave play based in the virile cultures of the ancient barbarian tribes. The woman is kept and trained like an animal by male Masters.
Recently, another style of consensual slave-play has emerged. It is called "Code d' Odalisque". This is a rewriting of the ancient sex slave traditions of the Orient. It is a male dominant/ female submissive style in which a woman voluntarily plays the role of willing sex slave to a male Slavekeeper who uses her for his sexual gratification. This is a non-Sado-masochism style - the woman is kept as an exclusive pleasure slave. Nor is she a beast of burden. In the ancient exotic traditions of the East attractive female slaves were selected to serve as sex slaves in the Sultan's harem. They were saved from toil and their beauty preserved as they are put to a life of pleasure. Such slaves are called "odalisques" (a French version of a Turkish word.) An odalisque is a female sexual servant.

Code d' Odalisque is a new codification of the manners and etiquette of consensual odalisque slavery. The Code provides the rules and framework of an entire style of non-violent sexual slave play. It offers an alternative to the whips and leather scene. An odalisque is kept for sex, protected from harm and nurtured in the sensual arts. It can be applied to fulltime or part-time play.

The differences between Code d' Odalisque (or just "Code d' Ode") and other styles in obvious from the attire of the slave. In the 'Old Guard' and other styles the slave typically wears a collar around the neck as an emblem of captivity. In Code d' Ode, on the other hand, the slave is kept naked and barefoot. Her nakedness is an emblem of her slavery and her devotion to sexual service. She has no need of clothing because she is kept from work and toil. An odalisque is a specialised and privileged slave, the most precious and prized of slaves. The Code develops a framework for safe, legal play while combining ancient traditions with a modern, hardcore sensibility. The role of odalisque is perfect for cock-crazy, submissive women who love to be used but who are not into pain or sado-masochism.

There are many unique features to Code d' Odalisque. An odalisque has her own living quarters, called an "odella" and her Keeper enjoys her in a room called a "saray". A freewoman enters the odalisque state by way of a "discalcing" ritual. The authority of a Slavekeeper is symbolized by a sword, not a whip. Slaves can specialise in different types of sex play and their Keepers can put them through a series of sexual "ordeals". Play is governed by the Code and by written contracts that ensure that all play is consensual and safe and that all limits are understood. There is a complete code of etiquette including a series of commands, gestures and positions that an odalisque must learn and be trained in. The whole style is based upon the elegant and erotic aesthetics of the Victorian and Edwardian periods at the beginning of the 20th C, and in the sumptuous and romantic traditions of the late Ottoman Empire.
