Attar - the slave's perfume



5. 18 - The Slave’s Attar

It is usual for an odalisque to wear an attar (perfume) as an olfactory emblem of her bond during her occlusion. The attar shall be formed out of a blend of natural essential oils such as lavender, rose, jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood, musk, according to the design of the Slavetrader or person officiating at her disclacing. She shall be anointed with the prepared perfume at her discalcing and the same blend shall be used throughout her captivity.


5. 19 - Anointing with Attar

Attar is worn by placing a small dab of the oil just below the arm pit under each arm, at the back of the neck and just above the pubic hair line. Where a slave is anointed during the discalcing ritual the attar shall be applied in these places by another person, usually the Slavetrader (Advocate) in an act of ritual anointing.


The ambiance of slaveplay in Code d' Odalisque ought to be sensuous and opulent, not barbarous and grungy. One of the most sensuous aspects of play - and one that is often overlooked in written accounts of odalisque play by people with no real acquaintance with it - is the attar, the slave's perfume. In written notes that accompanied early material in the development of the Code the use of perfumes was central and there are recipes for perfumes reputed to have aphrodisiacal powers. In Code d'Ode today, every odalisque has her own distinctive perfume, her attar. The slave must wear this perfume whenever she is in occlusion, i.e. in active play and in her role as odalisque. She does not wear the perfume when she is on sojourn. 

The Code specifies that the Slavetrader, or the man who brings her into odalisque slavery, should design the attar for the slave. It should be distinctive, unique to the slave. There should be some attempt to come up with a fragrance that suits the temperament and nature of the woman. A red-headed woman with a passionate temper might be given a spicy and hot perfume while a full and buxom brunette with a florid complexion and sunny smile might be given a cool floral perfume. There is an art in this, doubtless. It will take some experimentation to find a recipe that suits a particular woman. It is important to get it right: once it is given to her she uses it unchanged throughout her tenure as an odalisque. 

The Code refers to  a blend of natural essential oils such as lavender, rose, jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood, musk.. There are many others. The Tibetan ylang ylang, for example. Vanilla. Cinnamon. Verbena. Orange. A whole world of fragrances. So there is no excuse for producing two blends that are identical. Every slave can be recognised by her fragrance, her attar. 

This is a potent fact in active play. The experience of enjoying an odalisque is inter-mixed with the fragrance of her attar. It is one of the sensual joys of enjoying a cockslave. These joys are amplified, moreover, because in the sweaty vigour of hot sex the attar mingles with the smells of her sex. This is why article 5.19 specifies where the attar is applied on the slave's body. It is dabbed under each arm, at the back of the neck, above the pubis. Near the concentrations of body hair: armpit, head, pubis. These are places where the body releases its subtle chemical odours. The attar is placed here so that it mingles with those odours, or so that the sexual chemistry travels on the plumes of the perfume. 

A slave should be trained to get the amount of attar just right. It is too much if it completely overpowers the sexual odours of the body. There should be just enough that they mingle together, as if half/half. Usually, a small dab in each location on the body is all that is required but this will depend upon the perfume and the person. The slave adds more as required throughout her day. It is an adjunct to the natural odours of sex, both subtle and potent.

12.7. - Erotic Dance

As a normal and regular part of play an odalisque may be made to engage in erotic dance and display for her Keeper.


There are many forms of erotic dance. An odalisque can be trained in any of these traditional styles. The traditional style that best suits the aesthetic of Code d’ Odalisque is the erotic belly dance or an oriental strip-tease dance like the ‘Dance of the Seven Veils.’ There is no need to be overtly “oriental” in style, though. The preferred style is simply any sensual free form dance that makes a display of the slave’s hair.

In Western society today the dominant form of erotic dance is the striptease. This is historically an adjunct to prostitution. The client is first teased and then he is picked up by prostitutes – the stripper assists the whore. Since an odalisque is very specifically not a whore, and odalisque slavery is not prostitution – odalisques should be protected from prostitution – this type of erotic dance is usually not in keeping with the aesthetics and values of odalisque play.

The brassy musical-hall dance show has a set format. You can see it at any strip club in any big city. The same dance. The dancer wears stockings etc. – clothing essentially related to the clothing of the prostitutes being serviced by the dance. These days the connection between the striptease and prostitution might not be so clear, but it remains true. Accordingly, this common form of erotic dance tends to clash with the values of Code d’ Odalisque. It is the more oriental and free-form styles of erotic dance that are appropriate.

Dance is also a means to PHYSICHALIZATION. A sexual servant needs to be situated – psychologically – in her body. Her body is her tool. It is with her body that she serves. The modern media-saturated woman tends to be too mental, too cerebral. Indeed, modern life makes everyone abstracted and cerebral. We live increasingly virtual lives. An odalisque needs to be grounded in the physical reality of her flesh. She needs to know herself as flesh and blood and bone. She is a physical being. Dance is an excellent method of bringing an odalisque more into her body. Her Keeper or Trainer should instruct her:

When you dance, don’t think! Feel your body.
Think with your body. Not with your mind.
Stop being a mind. Just be a body. Be physical.
Dance is about being physical.
Celebrate your body, your flesh.
Enjoy being a physical creature.
Don’t be an idea. Be real. Be a thing. 

Be an object with volume in space. 
Feel yourself as a physical, spatial, three-dimensional thing.

Abstracted, cerebral people don't experience themselves as spatial bodies- they experience themselves as spaceless minds. An odalisque needs to be brought back into her body.

The preferred form of dance in Code d’ Odalisque is the free form dance that displays the slave’s hair. A free form dance in which the dancer tosses her hair around, from side to side. She throws her hair around, shows her hair to those watching.

Thus, she dances with her head. Her body follows in free form. This may include any movements she likes or that her Keeper requires. Her dance may be serpentine or tribal or classical or lewd or manic or frenzied or graceful and slow.

There are no set requirements. The Code merely says that the slave will learn erotic dance. This can take many forms.

Slavekeepers and slaves both should be creative.

Against sex trafficking - simulated economy


Code d' Odalisque actively works against non-consensual slavery. 


Code d' Ode includes a simulated slave economy. Legality is a first principle, so slavetrading is entirely simulated and no money changes hands between active players at any juncture. But a simulated trade operates as follows:

*Before purchase cockslaves are graded and priced. They are very expensive items! They are the most expensive of all slaves.

*A slave should demand that she be purchased, not taken freely like a slut. She is proud to be purchased.

*But her owner can "opt" to "commute" the slaveprice to alms. This means he makes a donation to charity instead. The purchase is only token (and indirect).

*Only some charities are acceptable for alms. These are: campaigns against child labour, forced prostitution and female genital mutilation, and all forms of non-consensual slavery. (You can't make a donation to your golf club and call it alms. It has to be directed to an appropriate cause.)

*The slavewoman has the right to nominate the organisation to which she wants her new owner to "commute the slaveprice to alms."

*The slaveowner has the right to decide the sum he will pay in alms to the charity his slave has nominated. Symbolically speaking he has paid the full price and the slave can wear her price with pride.

*A slaveowner is not required to reveal to his slave the actual sum of alms he has paid, nor is he required to give proof of payment to the slave or to anyone else. It is enough that he says to his new slave that he has "commuted the slave price to alms" with the charity of her choice.

*This constitutes full payment.

*It is improper for either slave or Keeper to ever mention either the fact or the sum of payment in any context again. It is a taboo topic in Code d' Ode play.

*It is a voluntary code. Men of good conscience will acknowledge that owning a cockslave is a rare privilege in life and will happily make a generous donation to a worthy cause in lieu of the slaveprice. This legitimizes the bond over his slave.

*Honesty is a cardinal virtue in a Slavekeeper. So when a man says "I have paid the slaveprice" (by way of a token donation to an appropriate charity) then we expect he is reporting the truth. It would be poisonous to begin a Keeper/slave relationship with a lie.

*It is the intent of Code d' Ode to foster and protect odalisques at all times. The whole Code works against illegal slavetrading, forced prostitution and exploitation.

*Odalisques are urged to demand that their owners pay the slave price. She should ask, "Am I to be taken for free like a slut?" An odalisque should SHAME her owner into paying a price for her.

*A key quality in a Slavetrader is the urge to protect and nurture odalisques. Such a man will abhor the ruthless maltreatment of beautiful, erotic women at the hands of underworld rackets and will happily give to charities that are devoted to helping such women. There are thousands of women in forced prostitution in the United States!

*There are no obstacles to players holding (consensual) slave auctions or auctions-for-service so long as ALL proceeds go to an appropriate charity.

*Code d' Ode seeks to create a high-class, luxury, consensual cockslave culture where play incidentally assists charity work that is devoted to eradicating forms of non-consensual sex slavery.

Example Ritual - Elevating a Memlook


AN EXAMPLE OF A RITUAL FOR ELEVATING A MEMLOOK TO THE STATUS OF ODALISQUE

A ritual for a Slavetrader, two or more male attendants and the female slave.


 Part 1. Degradation of the Memlook

Trader: Bring in the slave.

The slave, dishevelled and wearing grubby work clothes and shoes, a collar and chain, is brought in and thrown on the ground. One of the attendants stands over her with a sword.

Trader: Slave. What is your name?

The attendant prompts the slave with the point of the sword.

Slave: I am [Slave X]

Trader: [Slave X]. How long have you been a slave?

The attendant prompts the slave with the point of the sword.

Slave: [Six] months.

Trader: No. You have been a slave forever. You were born a slave. There has never been a time when you were not a slave. How long have you been a slave?

The attendant prompts the slave with the point of the sword.

Slave: I have been a slave forever.

Trader: And you will be a slave forever more. How long will you be a slave?

The attendant prompts the slave with the point of the sword.

Slave: Forever.

Trader: You are a filthy wretch. Look at your collar. Dog! Say it. You are a dog.

The attendant prompts the slave with the point of the sword.

Slave: I am a dog.

Trader: Come to my feet, dog!

The attendant prompts the slave with the point of the sword. The slave crawls to the Trader’s feet. He takes the chain attached to her collar.

Trader: Your life is nothing to me [Slave X]. You are under the sword. You have always been a slave and you will always be a slave. Why should I spare you?

The attendant prompts the slave with the point of the sword.

Slave: [pleading quietly] Please, sir.

The Trader considers her, then spits on her in contempt. He nods to the attendants who also spit on her.

Trader: (to the attendants) Bring the memlook to her feet.

The attendants lift her to her feet. She stands, eyes down.

Trader: Look at me.

The attendant moves to prompt her with the sword but the Trader holds up his hand for him to desist. She raises her head and looks at him. He slaps her face twice.

Trader: [Slave X]. My name is [John]. I am a Slavetrader under Code d’ Odalisque.  Of all slaves, you have been brought to my attention. Have you been a worthy slave?

Slave: Sir.

Trader: Of all slaves, you have been chosen to be spared from toil. That is why you have been brought to me. Have you been a worthy slave?

Slave: Sir.

Trader: It is in my power to raise you up from a memlook to an odalisque. Have you been a worthy slave?

Slave: Sir.

Trader: No. You are completely undeserving! Look at your collar. You are a dog. You deserve to be spat on and despised.

Slave: (chastised) Sir.

Trader: Let me see you.

He stands back and walks around her, looking her over. He feels her skin and her hair.

Trader: Open your mouth.

The slave opens her mouth. He inspects her tongue and teeth.

Trader: Show me your breasts.

The slave lifts her top to reveal her breasts.

Trader: Show me your mool.

The slave reveals her mool to him.

Trader: Although you are undeserving, slave, you have been selected to be spared from toil so that you can be dedicated to serving the beds of the men who are put over you. Do you understand what I am saying?

Slave: Sir. I do.

Trader: With toil you will age and your beauty will fade and you will become even more worthless than you are. If we spare you from toil, we can use you while you are still desirable. Do you understand?

Slave: Sir. I do.

Trader: But first you must be agreeable to this and give your consent. Do you understand the duties and nature of an odalisque?

Slave: Sir. I do.

Trader: You understand the purposes to which she is put?

Slave: Sir. I do.

Trader: You will be used for the sexual pleasures of the men who are put over you and for no other purpose. Do you understand?

Slave: Sir. I do.

Trader: You will no longer be required to cook and clean and labour like a beast of burden. You will be preserved from toil. But the men who are put over you may use you for their most debauched fantasies. You will serve their beds full-time. That will be your work. Do you understand?

Slave: Sir. I do.

Trader: Would you agree to this? Under Code d’ Odalisque you are free to decline. To decline, just shake your head and you will be taken back to the kitchen and the broom.

Slave: Sir. I would agree.

Trader: You will be placed under the ordinances of Code d’ Odalisque which sets out the rights and obligations of the odalisque. Would you agree to this?

Slave: Sir. I would agree.

The Trader goes to his desk.

Trader: (to the attendants) Sit her down.

The attendants lead the slave to the chair at the desk and sit her down.


Part 2. At the Trader’s desk. The paperwork.

Trader: Look at your collar. You are a dog. Yet you think you deserve to be raised up to the status of an odalisque, a precious pearl among slaves.

Slave: (contrite) Sir.

Trader: You deserve nothing, slave. We are only interested in your sex. There are men who want to preserve your body from toil so they may use it for their desires. This requires consent, even from a memlook. Again, will you agree to this?

Slave: Sir. I agree.

Trader: You will be freed from all your chores and will be dedicated to cockworship. That will become your whole existence for the duration of your occlusion. Will you agree to this?

Slave: Sir. I agree.

Trader: Very well then. I am satisfied that you are suitable and consenting. Then repeat the motto: ‘Free from toil, kept for sex.’

Slave: Free from toil, kept for sex.

Trader: Unlike a memlook, an odalisque is discalced. She does not need shoes like a worker. If you consent, take off your shoes and hand them to me as a mark of your submission. You will be freed from toil and kept for sex. Say it again: “Free from toil, kept for sex.”

The slave takes off her shoes and hands them to the Trader saying “Free from toil, kept for sex.”

Trader: Thank you Mademoiselle. Hold my hand and say it with me a third time.

She holds his hand and they say together, ‘Free from toil, kept for sex.’

Trader: Unlike a memlook an odalisque is entitled to a Contract of Submission that establishes her limits and conditions. Is there a Contract of Submission prepared for you?

Slave: Sir. There is.

She produces the said contract and the Slavetrader then reads through each article and asks the slave to verbally assent to each. First the slave, then the Trader, then the assistants sign the Contract of Submission.

Trader: I am satisfied that you meet the requirements of consent. Mademoiselle! For the duration of your contract you are no longer a memlook. You shall be used as a cockslave under Code d’ Odalisque with the rights and obligations of an odalisque. Stand.

The slave stands. The Trader instructs the assistants to remove her collar.

Trader: Unlike a memlook, an odalisque goes barefoot and naked. Her nakedness is her leash.

The Trader then strips the clothing off the slave with the words “Her nakedness is her leash” until the slave is standing naked.

Trader: Kneel. Show me your nape.

The slave kneels and lowers her head to expose the nape of her neck. The Trader takes the sword and holds it over her.

Trader: Mademoiselle. Repeat after me… (The slave is made to repeat each article.)

Response:  Sex is my toil.
Response:  Man is my Master.
Response:  Cock is my god.
Response:  I am a cunt
Response:  To be used and enjoyed
Response:  I give my body
Response:  My whole body
Response:  To be used and enjoyed
Response:  I give my flesh
Response:  To be used and enjoyed

The naked slave is led away and bathed.

Part 3. Anointing, Marking, Toast of Peace. 

Trader: Mademoiselle. I have here your attar. You shall wear it throughout your occlusion. It is your identity, your signature.

He lets her smell it then he anoints her with it, dabbing attar above her pubis, under her armpits and at the back of her neck.

Trader: Mademoiselle. You must wear the mark of the odalisque.

The slave is marked by an appropriate body marking.

Trader: Mademoiselle. Until you are purchased by a Slavekeeper, you are in my care and you obey my commands. I command you to confess yourself as a cockslave to my attendants. Kiss them. Beg them for cock.

The slave approaches each attendant in turn and says: “I am a cockslave.” She then kisses him and says, “Please give me cock.”

Trader: (to the attendants) Gentlemen, let us celebrate the occasion and end with the customary toast of peace.

One of the attendants brings wine and wineglasses. One of the glasses – the slave’s glass – is placed in a central location.

Trader: Gentlemen, let us prepare the slave’s glass.

At this point the attendants – and the Trader – may enjoy the slave as they will and at the conclusion of the orgia each shall ejaculate into the slave’s glass, which is then given to the slave as her ‘wine’.

Trader: I propose a toast of peace. May there always be peace, Mademoiselle, between you and the men you serve.

The Trader and his assistants drink a toast of peace. The slave says ‘Peace!’ along with them and drinks the glass of semen.

Trader: Take her into occlusion.

The slave is led away.

Walking naked


There is an art to walking naked. Our clothes often disguise our poor posture and ugly gait. When we are stripped naked our physical imperfections are exposed. Naked people often walk in an ungainly manner, or look awkward, or at worst look like apes - they stride and let their arms hang, shoulders dropped.

In most cases, it will be necessary to train an odalisque how to walk gracefully and with elegance when she is naked. This is one of the first tasks of slavetraining. The slave must be taught how to walk. As it is, modern women tend to walk with a far more masculine gait than did women in the past. Modern women tend to lope, tend towards rounded shoulders and very often walk with arms akimbo (folded arms over the breasts). If you don't believe it, spend some time sitting in street cafes or shopping malls and watch women walking past. Note how they walk. It becomes worse when they are naked.

An odalisque is an ornament to her Master's life. She should be taught to walk in an elegant - or at least inoffensive - manner. She stands straight and is not round shouldered. She never crosses her arms - and certainly not when she is walking! She carries herself with elegance and refinement. Her deportment when naked is fine and tasteful.

The two most desirable qualities in an odalisque's gait are grace and naturalness. Her walk should not be hurried nor contrived, not staccato and not aimless. A graceful walk is loosely defined as: a deliberate rythmical movement of legs and feet with gentle compensating responses of the head and the arms in a slow gentle swing. Importantly, the upper torso should remain sturdy - it should not be swaying back and forth. The head should not bob but should be slightly lifted in a gesture of physical confidence. Don't let the slave waddle and don't let her strut. If her head sticks forward like a turtle, correct it immediately!

A Buyer's Market

Contrary to every expectation, the reception Code d' Odalisque has received among women has been far more enthusiastic than among men. You would think that a system of submissive sexual play that makes men masters over compliant female cockslaves would attract some enthusiastic males and that willing women would be in short supply. Our experience since first making Code d' Ode available through the internet is, surprisingly, the opposite. We regularly receive encouraging and positive emails from enthusiastic women, but a positive response from men is less forthcoming. Indeed, it has happened - many times now - that we are contacted by a willing woman. She has found the Code on line, read it, thought about it, and finally said, yes! she wants to be an odalisque. But, to our surprise, we cannot find a suitable gentleman to be her Master. It is Slavekeepers who are in short supply.

Why is this? Perhaps the Code reads too much like a bill of rights for odalisques. It sets out the various rights of an odalisque and restricts the powers of the Slavekeeper. Certainly, some men - especially those who identify themselves as "doms" - resent restrictions and rules. In their world, they set the rules. The dom male is a law unto himself. In Code d' Ode, Keepers are bound by the framework and structures established by the written Code, which has a quasi-legal status. Some men might not like this.  Much of these restrictions are to reinforce the rights of the slave and to ensure her safety and protection. In this respect, the Code is very pro-female - it places checks and balances upon the male players.

Also, the focus of odalisque slavery is not the ego of the Slavekeeper. The slave is not enthralled by her Master's personality. An odalisque is a pleasure slave, not a soul mate. As such, the focus of her adoration is cock. Man is her Master, but cock is her god. The slave is far less focused upon the personality and ego of the Master. In the general M/s scene, however, one meets many Slavekeepers who expect a slave to treat him as a god. It becomes an exploration of power and ego. Code d' Ode has a very different dynamic. It is based in hedonism, not power. Men who are inclined to keep slaves are also inclined to have massive egos that they want adored. Code d' Ode doesn't appeal to such men.

Related to this is the fact that Code d' Ode is known and promoted through the on-line communities devoted to BDSM in a more general sense. But this is not really where the men who might be interested in Code are to be found. We find interested women in such communities - women who are looking for a non-SM alternative. But the men in that community are less interested. They tend to be more interested in SM and power exchange. As it is, Code d' Ode exploits a mismatch in that community. Women who want to be used for sex versus men who want a slave for all sorts of other reasons, including sado-masochist types of domination.

Another factor is that keeping an odalisque requires resources: it is only for men of means. Ordinary slaves, memlooks, can be acquired as labour - cooking, cleaning etc. But an odalisque is preserved from toil and is kept exclusively for her erotic skills. Keeping an odalisque, therefore, is a financial burden. A Keeper need not be a millionaire, but at the same time he needs to be able to provide an odalisque with an appropriate lifestyle. This certainly narrows the field of interested males. We also know of men who resented the idea that he was keeping a slave who didn't do any work. Well, that's the very nature of odalisque slavery.

For whatever reason, though, we are short of suitable gentlemen. It is a travesty that willing slaves cannot find men who will put them to good use. There are some most excellent Slavekeepers involved already, but the fact is that interested females out-number suitable males. This presents an opportunity for men, of course. Etiquette - Compliments at Introduction

26.50. - Compliments at introduction

When any male player (gentleman) is introduced to an odalisque it is polite for him to offer some compliment of her beauty.

Examples of correct form: "You have beautiful hair, Mademoiselle." "You have beautiful eyes, Miss Jenny." "You have beautiful breasts, slave."

An odalisque is a slave and yet also a very special creature. She is no ordinary slave and enjoys many rights and privileges denied to memlooks (low slaves). Among these is a point of etiquette: when the odalisque is introduced to a male player it is considered polite form for him to offer her a compliment. One would never afford a low slave this privilege, but an odalisque is deserving of a compliment. A gentleman should make some kind remark about some feature of her beauty. 

Gentlemen players in Code should be made aware of this convention. There is a proper way to behave when a gentleman is introduced to an odalisque. He should look the slave over and politely compliment some feature of her beauty. It is an acknowledgement of her special status. She is an object of beauty and desire. She has willingly made herself an object of beauty and desire. It is appropriate to comment on her beauty. 

It is regrettable that this convention seems not to be observed in several Code groups of our acquaintance. Like all points of etiquette it serves to soften and sweeten life and to render harsh reality into a mode of civility for the benefit of everyone. These points of etiquette should not be taken lightly. They are refinements, certainly, but refinement is one of the themes of Code d' Odalisque. The etiquette in Code d' Odalisque creates a fabric of conventions of conduct that contextualises sexual life. 

When you are introduced to an odalisque say hello, smile and then say, "You have a lovely face, Mademoiselle" or "Your body is very beautiful, slave" or "Your skin is beautiful and smooth, Mademoiselle." Or similar. It is a gesture of respect and indicates that you know who and what an odalisque is. She is not a work slave. She is an object of beauty. Admire her beauty and offer her an appropriate compliment. 

Note that this convention only applies to male players. Freewomen are not required to offer a compliment, although they may. In fact, in common society, it is already a convention for women to compliment each other upon meeting. "Hello. I love your dress!" "Pleased to meet you. Gorgeous ear-rings!" And so on. This type of feminine phoniness should be avoided. Instead, compliments are a formality men should observe.

20.2. - A reminder of captivity during sojourn 

A Keeper may require that his cockslave wear a collar or, more appropriately, an ankle band or nose ring, or some other item of clothing or jewelry, whenever she is in sojourn to remind her of her captivity and her continuing obligations as an odalisque.

Code d' Odalisque provides for a Slavekeeper to adorn his slave with some memento of her captivity to be worn whenever she is on sojourn. Sojourn means those times when she is allowed to go out from her state of occlusion and travel in the world as if she was a freewoman. During such times, of course, she dresses like a freewoman, and it is important that the world at large does not know that she is, in fact, a slave. Odalisque slavery, in general is a clandestine business. It happens behind closed doors. It is a discreet, hidden lifetstyle. When on sojourn, slaves are strictly forbidden from drawing any attention to their slavery. They must conduct themselves in an inconspicuous manner and strive to be regarded as altogether normal by the people she meets. At the same time, though, she should not forget her status. She is not a freewoman. She may move around like a freewoman during sojourn but she remains a slave. Her Keeper can require her to wear some memento to constantly remind her of this. It is something she wears only when on sojourn, and at no other time.

The Code suggests various things that could serve as a memento - a collar, clothing, jewelry - but the traditional device and the one used by most contemporary players is the anklet. The Slavekeeper provides his slave with any suitable anklet and instructs her to wear it whenever she ventures from captivity into sojourn. When she returns from sojourn back into the state of occlusion she is to remove it. If she neglects to wear it or to take it off again, she faces chastisement. It serves as a subtle and inconspicuous reminder to her whenever she is on sojourn. No one will find it odd and it will attract no attention. In this respect it is preferable to a collar or a nose ring or some other more visible device. 

In a contemporary context, there are many odalisques who effectively live two lives. They serve a Master but, out of necessity, they also work several days a week, or study, and so they spend a lot of time in sojourn. This is not desireable at all, but it is a situation many Keepers and slaves find themselves in. In such cases, the odalisque must wear her memento - the anklet - as a constant reminder of her captive status whenever she leaves occlusion. There is of course the danger that a slave who spends too much time in sojourn will acquire the ways and habits and mentality of a freewoman - contrary to and undermining the whole training of a slave. A memento is one method to help protect against this. If an odalisque must spend a lot of time in sojourn , her Keeper should adopt strategies to reinforce her slave identity. The anklet is a subtle device, but it is effective if used consistently. 

An anklet, of course, is a symbolic manacle.

Fisting?

Question: Can you explain why fisting is forbidden under Code d' Odalisque? My boyfriend and I find it very exciting. We don't understand why it would be listed as one of the sexual practices not permitted for odalisques.

The first priority of Code d' Odalisque is the safety and well-being of the slave. Accordingly, the Code takes a cautious and quite conservative position on more extreme types of sexual practice. Violence of any kind is listed as forbidden, but so too are practices that could result in injury to the slave. The practice of fisting - and extreme insertions - is in this category. This is not to say that fisting is deemed evil or wrong, but it is to say that it is regarded as a practice that can lead to injury.

Some people do indeed find fisting exciting, just as some people indulge in inserting large objects - from giant dildos to beer bottles - into a woman's vagina or anus. Obviously, this can cause unusual degrees of pleasure, which is why people do it, but it can also be dangerous. There is the danger of tearing and other injuries to the vagina, the perineum, the vaginal walls and even more so to the anus and rectal cavity. Yes, many couples indulge in these practices in a perfectly safe manner and there are never any problems for them, but by its very nature inserting large objects - including a whole fist - into a woman has a distinct potential to cause injury.

And such injuries are much more common than people might suppose. Experienced nurses and doctors will usually be able to relate stories about just how common sex injuries are. Couples push the limits and miscalculate and suddenly someone is injured. There are stories - often presented as funny stories - about people turning up at casualty wards with all sorts of strange objects inside them; bottles, tools, kitchen utensils, small animals etc. While this is more embarrassing than dangerous in most cases, there are plenty of instances where such sexual misadventures cause real and lasting damage. We want to avoid situations where an odalisque has to be taken to a hospital to have objects removed or tears stitched.

The vagina is elastic, sure enough. It has to be for the purposes of childbirth, but let us recall that for all that natural elasticity painful tearing is very common in childbirth. Code d' Ode errs on the side of safety. There is therefore a rule in the Code preventing Slavekeepers from fisting and extreme insertions. Safety comes first.

It should be noted, however, that while this is the default position Code d' Ode is very flexible and can be easily adapted to the tastes of particular couples. If a couple regularly practice fisting (or similar) without any problems, then it is easy for them to amend the parameters of the Code - although this is at the call of the woman. These features of the Code are designed to protect the woman - so it is her call if such strictures are to be relaxed. We do not deny that some women find fisting exciting and exhilerating. In that case, she should explicitly state her willingness to be used for such purposes in her Contract of Submission or in a subsequent Plea for Mercy. For example, a slave may (of her own volition, and without coercion) issue a Plea for Mercy along the lines of the following in:

Slavekeeper! Your slave wishes to surrender her protection from the practice of fisting under Code d' Odalisque. Your slave enjoys being fisted and issues you with a plea to use her in this way with her full consent. 

Since it is forbidden under the Code, it requires a Plea for Mercy to register explicit consent from the slave.

Similarly, many couples enjoy the practice of spanking. It is also forbidden under Code d' Odalisque because, as always, the Code errs on the side of safety and is non-violent by default. But if a slave enjoys being spanked she can give her Master permission to do it. The Code can be adapted to personal tastes. Take care.
